How to Prepare for a Family Photo Session?
We truly want to create images that reflect your family, capturing who you are as a family, on a day to day basis. This means ignoring the camera and interacting with your children as you would if we weren’t around.
Now here are some tips on how to make it happen on your part.
First: Pick your location.
The location of your family photo session can add a whole lot of fun to your photos! The images will be focused on you, but a great background adds a ton of color, texture, lines and light.
Some of our favorite places are:
- Downtown Annapolis, Annapolis, Maryland
- Quiet Waters Park – Annapolis, Maryland
- Centennial Lake Park, Columbia, Maryland
- Lake Elkhorn – Columbia, Maryland
- KinderFarm Park, Millersville, Maryland
- Piney Orchard Nature Preserve, Piney Orchard, Maryland
Second: Choose your outfits.
Choose colors that complement each other. Pick similar tones and colors in the same family. We recommend laying out all your outfits to see if they look nice together. This will help a lot!
Third, remember snacks and drinks for the kids. This will make a world of a difference for the kids and the photos.
Fourth: Props! Props! Props!
We will of course bring some props to use in photos. But we encourage all of our families to bring items that represent their family or has meaning to make your photos unique to your family. For example: a beautiful quilt, your child’s favorite toy, or even a sign!
Fifth: Have fun!
Laugh, be silly, love on your kids, and let them be themselves. When these types of authentic moments happen, the photos taken are so real and some of our favorites. The personalities of you and your children jump out of the photo.
